Case Study: Amgen achieves enterprise-wide collaboration and 360-degree visibility with Atlassian (Jira & Confluence)

A Atlassian Case Study

Preview of the Amgen Case Study

Amgen improves collaboration and visibility across the enterprise with Atlassian

Amgen, a leading biotechnology company in Thousand Oaks, CA, adopted scaled agile (SAFe) to coordinate 10–15 distributed teams working on large initiatives like predictive cancer‑treatment software. Their challenge was to establish a shared language, roles, and a single place to document terminology, requests, and responsibilities so teams could stay in sync, forecast work predictably, and maintain enterprise-wide visibility.

Amgen standardized on Atlassian tools—using Jira terminology across teams and Confluence for documentation—so architecture and business requests are submitted and reviewed in Confluence, then accepted items become Jira epics that are prioritized, broken into stories, and scheduled into sprints. The result was organization-wide transparency (including top management), easier-to-access reports for non-technical stakeholders, automatic updates for watchers, and the 360-degree visibility that enabled successful scaling.
