Aeria Games chooses HipChat to scale internal communications

Aeria Games, a Berlin-based leader in free-to-play online multiplayer games that doubled in size after a 2014 acquisition, faced chaotic internal communication. Teams relied on email and multiple chat clients (Skype, Yahoo Messenger, Kakao), which became unmanageable—especially for distributed teams in Germany collaborating with developers across Asia—creating a need for a mobile-ready, scalable real-time group communication solution.

The company standardized on Atlassian Hipchat, using persistent one-to-one and group rooms with file/code sharing, screen-sharing and searchable history. After a successful pilot, Hipchat was rolled out company-wide in two months and adopted by about 475 users (including external developers), improving cross-functional collaboration, speeding workflows, and closing the communication gap between German and Asian teams.
