Case Study: Starz achieves faster releases, cost savings, and improved collaboration with Atlassian Confluence

A Atlassian Confluence Case Study

Preview of the Starz Case Study

Starz drives efficiency and collaboration across teams with Atlassian

Starz, the Denver-based media company behind shows like Spartacus and The White Queen, needed a better way for its software teams to deliver content from studios to TV, mobile, and web while coordinating major releases with marketing and sales. Developers and business units required tighter collaboration and an ALM solution that could support complex, cross‑team projects like Magnetar, which prepares and distributes content across platforms.

Starz migrated its entire application lifecycle to Atlassian—using Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, Fisheye/Crucible and add-ons such as Zephyr, Balsamiq, Gliffy and Tempo—creating a single integrated platform for tracking, builds, reviews, documentation and time management. The move produced immediate cost and time savings (about $100K in the first year and over $500K after adding Tempo), sped major release cadence from roughly three months to three weeks, and improved team efficiency, collaboration and responsiveness to customer feedback.
