Case Study: Kiva scales global microlending and collaboration with Atlassian Confluence

A Atlassian Confluence Case Study

Preview of the Kiva Case Study

Kiva grows its microlending platform with Atlassian

Kiva, a San Francisco–based microlending non-profit that has connected more than 1.5 million lenders and raised over $900 million for borrowers, supports 100+ employees and 400+ volunteers across 80+ countries. With teams distributed globally, Kiva relied on disconnected tools and email for coordination, which made cross‑team collaboration and project tracking inefficient.

Kiva standardized on Atlassian—Jira for project tracking, Confluence for knowledge management, and Hipchat for real‑time communication—bringing teams up to speed within a week. Confluence became the central hub for partner policies, loan operations and project collaboration, while Jira integrated with Hipchat to speed support resolution; engineers and product teams now coordinate more effectively, build software faster, and scale operations to better serve Kiva’s mission.
