Illumina, a San Diego–based leader in genomic sequencing whose mission is to improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome, needed to scale global software development and testing for customer applications and a cloud data platform. The company faced challenges coordinating requirements, approvals and testing across teams in the US, UK, Canada and Singapore and wanted to reduce the time and cost of developing these tools.

Illumina adopted Jira Software Data Center and Confluence Data Center to create marketing requirements, translate them into Jira projects, automate stakeholder updates, and lock down design history in Confluence. The tools shaved days off development cycles, lowered development costs, replaced email/Excel workflows with trackable tickets and reports, and scaled to nearly 2,000 users across the company, including marketing.
