Case Study: Arizona State University achieves university-wide agile transformation and scalable IT workflows with Atlassian Confluence

A Atlassian Confluence Case Study

Preview of the Arizona State University Case Study

How the IT Department at Arizona State University is using agile practices and data to impact the future of higher education

Arizona State University, a large and innovation-focused institution, needed to modernize and scale its IT workflows to better serve students and support cross-disciplinary initiatives like Smart Cities and Universal Learning. The University Technology Office (UTO) faced cost and usability limits with its legacy project tool, and ASU brought in leadership to drive an agile transformation so the university could more quickly turn ideas into impact.

The UTO built on an existing Atlassian foundation, adopting Jira Software Cloud, Confluence Cloud and Tempo (plus Marketplace apps) and creating onboarding templates and training to spread the approach across 1,800 users in both technical and non‑technical teams. The new workflow delivers visibility, time tracking and billing, stronger reporting and capacity planning, and scalable process templates—helping IT work more efficiently, support institutional goals, and position UTO as a strategic partner in ASU’s future.
