How Sun Life unlocked a brighter future by migrating to Atlassian Cloud

Sun Life, a Toronto-based financial services firm with a 150+ year history, set out to modernize its ways of working after employees struggled with fragmented legacy tools and slow, on-prem platforms. The company faced cultural and security concerns about moving to the cloud while pursuing an agile transformation that would improve efficiency, collaboration, and customer delivery.

Working with Adaptavist and the Atlassian Migration Program, Sun Life used a phased “optimize-and-shift” approach—sandboxes, testing, training, and selected cloud apps—to migrate Confluence and Jira to Atlassian Cloud. The result: faster, more secure collaboration with automations and cloud-only features, >$250K in time savings in the first 10 months, 97% user satisfaction, an 80% reported increase in Confluence efficiency, and Jira time savings covering most license costs.
