Case Study: National Bank of Canada achieves scalable, high-performance collaboration for 6,000+ users with Atlassian Confluence Data Center

A Atlassian Confluence Case Study

Preview of the National Bank of Canada Case Study

How standardizing on Data Center led to a more open way of working

National Bank of Canada, a 23,000+ employee financial institution based in Montreal, was undergoing a people-first cultural and digital transformation that demanded more transparency and cross-team collaboration. As Atlassian tools spread rapidly across the bank—from 500 to 5,000 users—performance, capacity and availability issues emerged, and the IT team needed a scalable, reliable platform to replace siloed spreadsheet and email workflows.

The bank standardized on Atlassian Data Center (Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, Bitbucket), engaged a Technical Account Manager to plan a focused migration, and used AWS Quick Start templates to enable fast horizontal scaling. The two-day migration delivered higher availability and noticeably better response times (JQL, comments), supported roughly 6,000 users and faster deployments, and helped break down silos by increasing visibility and agility across teams.
