Case Study: AppDynamics achieves cross-team transparency and de-siloing with Atlassian Confluence

A Atlassian Confluence Case Study

Preview of the AppDynamics Case Study

How AppDynamics transformed from a siloed startup to a team of teams

AppDynamics, a San Francisco–based application-monitoring company of about 1,500–2,000 employees, doubled its headcount in two years and outgrew its informal "startup within a startup" ways of working. Growth exposed siloed teams, inconsistent tooling and processes, and infrastructure limits that caused near-daily crashes and hindered transparency and scalable support.

By standardizing on Atlassian (Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, Bitbucket) and migrating to Jira Data Center with Adaptavist, the team implemented a scalable service desk across nine more functions, automated a full Jira stack spin-up in seven minutes, and introduced ITSM-aligned workflows while preserving DevOps agility. Results included dramatically improved uptime (crashes dropped from daily to twice per year), reduced administrative overhead, greater transparency, and faster, more consistent support across the organization.
