Braintree creates a knowledge-sharing culture with Confluence

Braintree, a Chicago-based payments company founded in 2007 and acquired by PayPal in 2013, faced rapid growth that exposed weaknesses in internal knowledge management. Important information was scattered across multiple wikis, Google Docs, and whiteboards, creating duplicate, conflicting, and hard-to-find content as the organization scaled.

Braintree adopted Atlassian—using Confluence as the central knowledge base and Trello for brainstorming and project tracking—opened editing to all employees, and started a weekly Confluence newsletter to drive engagement. The approach created a culture of shared ownership: Confluence content and user count grew nearly tenfold, 95% of employees use Confluence regularly, and Trello adoption accelerated cross-team project work.
