Atlassian helps distributed teams at Red Giant stay in sync

Red Giant, a Portland-based developer of filmmaking and motion-graphics software used by independent filmmakers and major studios, faced the challenge of coordinating a globally distributed development team and managing code across more than 60 products and modules. To speed development and enable a more flexible workflow, the company moved from SVN to Git and needed tooling to keep distributed teams in sync and to manage many concurrent branches.

Red Giant extended its existing Jira and Confluence setup with Bitbucket: specs are written in Confluence, turned into Jira backlogs and epics, and then implemented in Bitbucket branches. Developers can work via browser, command line, or the desktop client—supporting GitFlow with 60+ active branches—and the integrated stack gives visibility across specs, issues, and code. The result: easier branch management, clearer traceability of fixes and versions, and improved planning, communication and collaboration so the team can focus on building great special-effects software.
