A Atlassian Confluence Case Study
Amgen, a multinational biotechnology company based in Thousand Oaks, California, implemented scaled agile across groups of 10–15 distributed teams to coordinate large projects like software to predict cancer treatment. Using a customized SAFe approach, they needed a shared language and a central place to document new terminology, roles, responsibilities, and requirements to improve synchronization, forecasting, and enterprise-wide visibility.
Teams standardized on Jira terminology and documented processes and requests in Confluence: architecture and business requests are submitted and reviewed in Confluence, accepted items become Jira epics, then are broken into stories and scheduled into sprints. The result is organization-wide transparency—epics visible to everyone including top management, accessible Confluence reports for non-technical users, automatic Jira updates for stakeholders, and improved scalability and alignment across teams.
