Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is a 40,000+ employee transport operator serving about 460 million passengers and 111 million tons of cargo annually. Its engineering teams build ticketing apps for web, mobile, machines and staff but were hampered by fragmented tools (Polarion, Jenkins, SVN, Git) that lacked visibility and efficient reporting across the build process.

ÖBB migrated to Atlassian—Confluence for requirements, Jira for tracking, Bitbucket for source control and Bamboo for CI—giving teams end-to-end traceability and faster workflows. Adoption spread to other divisions (Rail Cargo IT, Facility Management, Corporate Security), and today ÖBB runs 320 Jira projects with 28,000 users and 88,500 issues, 1,400 Confluence users and 22,000+ pages, and 50,000+ Bitbucket commits—enabling a more robust ticketing system for its 460 million annual passengers.
