Watchung Hills Regional High School Uses Atlantis Software and VDI to Help Every Student Succeed

Watchung Hills Regional High School, a New Jersey regional public school serving roughly 2,200 students, needed a way to run PARCC computer‑based testing while preserving its BYOD policy and delivering consistent Windows desktops. An initial VDI pilot proved the concept but quickly hit storage I/O bottlenecks and ran out of SAN capacity, preventing the district from scaling beyond about 100 users.

The school deployed Atlantis ILIO with VMware View on its existing Cisco UCS servers, moving storage workloads into RAM to eliminate I/O constraints without buying additional arrays. The outcome was a fast, easily scalable VDI platform—supporting 1,000+ desktops, dramatically higher IOPS, near‑instant application launches, and a successful, low‑complaint PARCC testing rollout accessible from any device.
