A Atlantis Computing Case Study
The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham council (about 3,200 staff) needed to cut costs and support an ambitious shared-services program while protecting frontline services. Its aging on‑premise VDI was limited in performance and scalability, and the council required secure BYOD, better mobile/home working, property rationalization and reduced risk of data loss.
Working with H&F Bridge Partnership the council deployed Cisco Desktop Virtualization on a VCE Vblock architecture (Cisco UCS with Intel Xeon, VMware and EMC) plus Atlantis ILIO, hosted across two data centers in an active/active configuration. The platform improved performance and manageability, scaled from 1,300 users (rising to 2,700 with capacity for 10,000), cut cost-per-seat by 20–25%, reduced power use by 80%, lowered total cost of ownership by one-third, doubled thin‑client lifespan and significantly increased support productivity and workforce mobility.
