BLP Law Firm Deploys 1,400 Remote Desktops in Less Than Two Weeks

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), the 13th largest law firm in the UK with offices across eight countries, needed to roll out Windows 7/Office 2010 remote desktops so lawyers could telecommute during the 2012 London Olympics. Their VMware View VDI project stalled when the shared storage infrastructure hit an IO performance bottleneck, causing poor desktop responsiveness and putting the tight deadline at risk.

BLP engaged Atlantis Computing and deployed Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI, which uses server RAM as primary storage to deliver high IOPS per desktop and integrates with VMware View Composer. In under two weeks they provisioned 1,400 virtual desktops, eliminated the need for shared storage (freeing it for other projects), reduced storage CAPEX/OPEX, and delivered a desktop experience significantly faster than physical PCs, enabling timely telecommuting.
