Atlantis ensures the competitiveness of new desktop-as-a-service offering

OGL Computer, a 40-year IT services provider for small and medium-sized businesses, set out to launch cDesktop, a hosted desktop-as-a-service for 5–200 user customers. The challenge was to deliver multi-tenant VDI with desktop-level performance while keeping setup costs low enough to offer competitive subscription pricing; an SSD-based SAN proved too costly and would have added rack, power and support overhead.

OGL adopted Atlantis software-defined storage, which cut storage costs by about 34% versus an SSD SAN and enabled much higher performance — roughly 200 IOPS per virtual desktop with under 1 ms latency (about 10x the IOPS of a similarly priced SSD SAN). The result: a resilient, modular service supporting ~1,500 desktops across 20 hosts, strong customer satisfaction, rapid business growth and cDesktop becoming OGL’s best-selling hosted offering.
