8 Military Hospitals Across the U.S. and Europe Cut Costs by Reducing Storage by More than 80% with Atlantis ILIO

The U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM), supporting eight military treatment facilities in the U.S. and Europe, needed to standardize application and desktop virtualization to give clinicians secure, mobile access to patient records from any approved device. Major concerns included storage CAPEX/OPEX, operational maintenance and the risk that shared storage I/O bottlenecks would degrade physician desktop performance and impact patient care.

HP architects implemented a Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp solution accelerated by Atlantis software on NetApp FAS3270 storage and HP BL460c blades. Atlantis SDS cut the number of disks for the first 4,000 desktops from 1,000 to 240, offloaded more than 80% of virtual desktop IOPS and reduced storage capacity needs by about 85%, lowering costs and minimizing I/O risk; the solution also earned the U.S. Army Certificate of Networthiness.
