How Autodesk Activates Their Data Mesh with Snowflake and Atlan

Autodesk, the global design and engineering software leader, needed a better way to scale analytics and data collaboration across 60 domain teams as data demand surged. Its central data platform was struggling with a growing ingestion backlog, limited visibility into data assets, and the need to support decentralized ownership, governance, and self-service data consumption. Autodesk used Snowflake as its data warehouse and turned to Atlan to help make data products easier to discover and trust.

Autodesk implemented Atlan as the data catalog and metadata layer for its data mesh, integrating it with Snowflake, its data lake, and custom metadata for quality and ownership. With Atlan, publishers and consumers gained self-service discovery, lineage, and usage visibility, while the platform team could track what data was being used and by whom. The result was a scalable data mesh supporting 120 active users, 45 use cases since 2021, and dozens of ingested sources and data products delivered across teams.
