Major Healthcare Company - Customer Case Study

Major Healthcare Company, a 27,000-employee healthcare system, faced costly hiring mistakes and high turnover and therefore evaluated new hires for judgmental fit. Over one year they tested 5,775 new hires using Athena Assessment’s Athena Quotient (AQ) against 10 critical judgment areas to identify risk factors and improve selection decisions.

Athena Assessment implemented the AQ as a pre-employment screening and development tool; results showed all 695 terminated hires had at least one “red flag,” with 128 having 4–10 red flags and 16 having all 10. The company estimates following Athena Assessment’s recommendations could have avoided those hires and saved over $11 million. In a nursing unit using AQ for hiring and development, retention rose from 72% to 94% and attrition fell from 28% to 6% (a 79% reduction) over the past 10 years.
