Scottish Water, the publicly owned provider of water and wastewater services to about five million customers across Scotland, launched an Agile Working Program to give employees flexibility in where and when they work. When designing a new National Operations Centre and reducing desks by 25% through hot‑desking, the company found it had no desk‑reservation system or utilization data—employees relied on email to book rooms, often spent time hunting for desks, and lacked management information to optimize space and collaboration.
After evaluating vendors, Scottish Water chose AsureSpace Workspace Manager and had the hosted solution implemented and live by their move‑in date. The system—accessed via kiosks, mobile app, touch panels and Outlook—brought self‑service booking, utilization reporting and badge integration, helping optimize desk estate and deliver an estimated £5m in construction and running‑cost savings. Around 1,500 staff now regularly use the system, satisfaction is high, and Scottish Water is rolling the solution out to more sites and adding features like pool‑car and video‑conference booking.
