The Texas Rangers, a Major League Baseball team with a growing data operation, faced delays in delivering live game and player analytics because their Apache Airflow pipelines were maxing out CPU and taking more than 20 minutes to complete. They worked with Astronomer, Inc. on Astro to improve pipeline performance without adding new compute costs.

Astronomer, Inc. implemented Astro worker queues to isolate the CPU-intensive live analytics pipeline on dedicated workers, along with data-aware scheduling. This cut pipeline completion time by over 80% to about 3 minutes, allowed the Rangers to process 4 more pipelines in parallel, and enabled analytics to be delivered immediately after games instead of the next day, all with no additional compute spend.
