Case Study: Microsoft Corporation achieves faster healthcare app innovation with Astadia

Microsoft Corporation needed a way to showcase the possibilities of Windows 8 and related Microsoft technologies through an engaging healthcare experience, but the project had to be built on a very accelerated timeline for major events like TechEd and WPC. Microsoft partnered with Astadia to create a Windows 8 prototype healthcare app, “Rounds,” using Microsoft Surface along with Office, SharePoint, and Lync concepts to improve workflow and collaboration.

Astadia designed and developed the Rounds app to simulate a day in the life of doctors and nurses, integrating touch-based Windows 8 features with collaboration and EMR-style functionality. The app was delivered in under 10 weeks instead of the originally estimated 19 weeks, included 24 screens, and helped demonstrate a 60% reduction in time to complete in-field tasks; it was also well received by Microsoft stakeholders and became a public showcase for Windows 8.
