Preview of the The Makaton Charity Case Study

How The Makaton Charity reached new audiences and boosted memberships with a digital transformation

The Makaton Charity, which teaches a unique sign-and-symbol communication method used by people with communication difficulties as well as teachers and health professionals, was forced to pivot from in-person training when COVID-19 hit and lost 95% of its revenue. With a mission to keep lessons accessible and reach new audiences quickly, the charity needed a digital platform to replace face-to-face delivery and support its growing international community.

Working with Bright’s Asset Bank, Makaton launched “The Hub” in five months — a permissioned digital asset management platform integrated with iMIS for subscription control, tutor uploads, searchable videos, and easy social-media resizing. The Hub drove rapid growth: 30,000 new members since launch, 60,000 active users, 65,000 assets hosted, 250,000 downloads, recovery of about 90% of lost revenue, and recognition via the iMIS Great Things Award 2021.
