The Weather Channel Implements Aspera For Media Distribution And Automation

The Weather Channel (The Weather Company) set out to build a central, open-architecture media hub to create the world’s largest, most easily distributable library of weather content. Faced with ingesting 10–20 TB of footage daily and the need for rapid global transfers, the company needed a way to speed content turnaround, streamline workflows for globally dispersed teams, and improve time-to-market for critical weather reporting.

To meet that challenge they deployed Aspera solutions — including Aspera faspex™, Point-to-Point, Orchestrator and Console — to automate ingest, accelerate transfers, and monitor the entire production cycle. The result: transfers that once took hours now take minutes, inbound and outbound velocity roughly doubled, staff were freed from manual routing to focus on production, and content is reliably distributed to Weather.com, Telecast, Weather Underground and mobile apps with a flexible, scalable workflow.
