Speeding media delivery to an international audience

Viki is a global streaming platform that delivers TV shows, movies and music videos to 33 million monthly viewers and enables fan-driven subtitling in over 200 languages. To serve international audiences it must ingest very large (40–50 GB) video files from content providers around the world—often just before air—and needed a transfer solution that could reliably deliver high performance over any distance and support ad hoc downloads by operations staff.

Viki selected Aspera On Demand as its exclusive high‑speed transfer service to and from AWS S3, using Aspera Connect for content partners and Aspera Console for monitoring. Aspera halved upload times, enabling Viki to process, transcode and publish translated videos within an hour or two of air, while providing easy use for non‑technical partners, reliable resumable transfers, enterprise security, and the ability to scale with Viki’s growth.
