Powering Cross-Country Video Distribution To Online Streaming Platforms

Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), a mission-driven public media organization reaching roughly 120 million viewers per month, expanded its distribution to streaming platforms and partners such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. Faced with sending large transcoded video files cross-country over the public Internet, PBS needed a solution to overcome slow, unreliable transfers, poor bandwidth utilization and lack of control to meet on-time delivery commitments.

PBS deployed Aspera Enterprise Server and Aspera Console (using hot folders) to automate, monitor and control high-speed transfers; Aspera’s FASP technology maximizes available bandwidth, automatically retries/resumes failed transfers, and allows per-transfer bandwidth prioritization. The result is predictable, secure, and manageable distribution—faster deliveries with fewer failures, real-time control accessible to editors and ops staff—and PBS is now rolling out Aspera Orchestrator to automate end-to-end workflows.
