Case Study: Afrostream achieves sub‑12‑hour content turnaround and 1,000 hours/month ingest with Aspera Server on Demand

A Aspera Case Study

Preview of the Afrostream Case Study

High-speed transfer of local and international African and African American content to and from IBM Cloud

Afrostream is a subscription-based VOD platform serving local and international African and African American movies and series from offices in the US and France, with content stored on IBM SoftLayer in San Jose. The company faced a logistical challenge: studios and distributors worldwide needed to upload very large files (10 GB–1 TB) over the WAN to Afrostream’s cloud, and traditional methods like FTP were too slow and unreliable, causing long turnaround times and hampering growth.

Afrostream deployed Aspera Server on Demand (with the FASP® protocol) integrated into IBM SoftLayer to enable fast, secure, and reliable transfers directly to cloud object storage. The solution streamlined ingest, encoding and distribution workflows, cut content turnaround from three days to under 12 hours, and increased ingest volume to about 1,000 hours of content per month.
