FOX Sports Revolutionizes Delivery of the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Aspera

FOX Sports, the U.S. English broadcaster of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, faced its largest production ever: 64 matches across 12 Russian venues generating more than 1 PB of content (20 HD-SDI and 2 UHD-HDR feeds per match). The challenge was to deliver near‑live highlights and allow Los Angeles–based production teams to edit within seconds without deploying extensive on‑site staff or dedicated transmission lines.

FOX deployed IBM Aspera FASPStream integrated with Telestream Lightspeed Live and Vantage to stream edit‑ready AVC‑Intra feeds over public IP to Los Angeles in near real time. The workflow let editors begin working on live captures within about 10 seconds, reduced production costs, supported multi‑channel live coverage and produced 150+ World Cup feature pieces, and is being reused for future events.
