Enabling Distribution of Sports Content To Media Outlets At High Speed

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a premier collegiate athletics league whose Advanced Media team produces and distributes video content and highlights to nearly 200 media outlets. Facing a tape‑based FedEx workflow that delayed delivery by days, the ACC needed a digital, same‑day file workflow so broadcasters could incorporate footage into evening news within hours of events.

The ACC deployed Aspera software (Connect Server and later faspex) and built a branded portal, AVCS, with school workgroups for uploads, AVID editing, watermarking and ProRes/H.264 encoding, plus automated email alerts, analytics and bandwidth control. The switch cut transfer times dramatically (1 GB now moves in under a minute versus ~20 minutes), enables content availability by 4 pm for 6 pm news, and delivered faster turnarounds, greater control and positive feedback from schools and outlets.
