Aspera Transforms Digital Workflows For Four-Time Academy Award® Winning Visual Effects Facility

Weta Digital, a four-time Academy Award–winning visual effects studio, needed a fast, reliable way to move high‑resolution media bi‑directionally between its New Zealand offices and partners in Los Angeles while protecting other applications on the same link and supporting mixed OS workflows (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows) with full audit and billing reporting.

Weta deployed Aspera Enterprise Servers and the Aspera Point‑to‑Point client, using adaptive-rate transfers (minimum 20 Mbps) and two concurrent transfers to fully utilize bandwidth. The solution ran 12+ hours daily, moved about 20 GB/day, provided real‑time priority control and logging, and delivered roughly 20× the speed of FTP while remaining interoperable and cost‑effective.
