Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) establish company-wide software asset management system

Austrian Federal Railways (OBB) needed a company-wide, tool-supported software asset management system to manage a highly decentralized and heterogeneous IT landscape, improve license compliance, and gain better control over software contracts and usage. Working with vendor Aspera Technologies, the organization sought a way to replace manual, error-prone license tracking with transparent, current data and standardized processes.

Aspera implemented SmartTrack to centralize SAM across OBB’s client and server environments, integrating data from multiple IT systems and improving data quality through iterative rollouts. The result was faster audit responses, stronger vendor negotiations, improved compliance, and significant time and cost savings, while also increasing internal awareness of software license management across the group.
