Strategic Estimating Systems faced a common industry problem: organizations constrained by traditional spreadsheet-based estimating could not consistently produce accurate, timely cost estimates for large capital projects. To overcome this, SES standardized its business on Aspen Technology’s Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) to move clients to a model-based estimating approach while improving consistency and accuracy of bids and lump-sum proposals.
SES combined Aspen Technology’s ACCE with a repeatable six-step implementation process to transform estimating workflows; benchmarking shows SES and clients set up on ACCE expend three to five times less estimating effort than traditional methods, achieve target accuracy earlier in the project lifecycle (e.g., AACEI Class IV), and produce faster, more consistent estimates. These gains—documented by SES—deliver better bid outcomes, earlier funding decisions, and the capacity to take on more projects, improving revenue and profitability while leveraging Aspen Technology’s ACCE.
