Production Optimization of Natural Gas Pipelines & Field Production Facilities Using Performance Engineering

YPFB Andina, Bolivia’s national oil company, faced declining natural gas production at two major fields (San Alberto and San Antonio) while needing to meet domestic and export contractual obligations. To address this, Aspen Technology was engaged, using its Aspen HYSYS and Aspen EDR software to model and evaluate the integrated field, plant and pipeline systems.

Aspen Technology implemented a rigorous integrated Aspen HYSYS/EDR model to debottleneck processing plants, pipelines and compression stations and identify optimal operating conditions. The work unlocked an 18% total capacity increase (about 8% at San Alberto and 10% at San Antonio), avoided penalties, and generated an estimated $280 million USD in additional revenue in one year.
