Petrochemical Production Facility Drives Value and Maximizes Return with Non-linear APC

SCG (Siam Cement Group), Thailand’s second-largest company, needed to drive enterprise value and maximize return on assets across its downstream polyethylene and polypropylene lines by reducing process variation and improving product stability. To meet this challenge SCG selected Aspen Technology’s non-linear APC solution, including the Aspen Non-linear Controller and supporting aspenONE modules, to standardize advanced process control across its polyolefin units.

Aspen Technology implemented a standardized, collaborative APC design and software suite while working onsite with SCG engineers to transfer skills and operational best practices. The deployment cut key reactor parameter variation dramatically (H2/olefins standard deviation down 88.55%), raised average production rates by about 5%, improved product quality and stability, reduced costs and transition times, and left SCG capable of applying the same Aspen Technology solution template across remaining units.
