Mid-Size EPC Reduces Cost Estimating Time Up to 90% to Meet Tighter Schedules and Budgets

S&B Engineers and Constructors (S&B), a mid-size privately held EPC based in Houston, faced shrinking client budgets, tighter schedules, and growing demand for detailed digital handovers. To reduce estimate preparation time and costs while maintaining accuracy, S&B turned to Aspen Technology’s Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (part of the aspenONE suite).

Using Aspen Technology’s Aspen Capital Cost Estimator, S&B calibrated templates and historical trends to automate setup and scale the estimating function, achieving measured reductions of roughly 5:1 in estimating hours for FEL1/FEL2 and about 2.5:1 for FEL3 estimates. The solution freed estimator resources for value-added analysis and what‑if studies, preserved accuracy and risk control, enabled export to scheduling systems, and delivered significant time and cost savings across projects.
