Mid-Size E&C Boosts Ability to Efficiently Complete Relief Sizing with aspenONE Engineering

HGA, a midsize engineering, procurement and construction (E&C) firm, faced growing project volumes and increasing design complexity but lacked a commercial pressure safety valve (PSV) sizing tool, forcing time-consuming manual calculations and data transfers. To address this, HGA evaluated and adopted Aspen Technology’s aspenONE Engineering suite—notably Aspen HYSYS with the new PSV Sizing capability and Aspen Flare System Analyzer—to bring PSV and flare design into their process simulation workflow.

Aspen Technology implemented the integrated Safety Analysis Environment in Aspen HYSYS and linked results to Aspen Flare System Analyzer, eliminating manual data copying and enabling systematic overpressure scenario analysis. The solution delivered immediate benefits for HGA—about a 50% reduction in relief valve sizing time—while improving accuracy, expanding capabilities (including supercritical relief calculations), and streamlining documentation and flare modeling.
