Global Engineering Organization Improves Bids and Estimates with Aspen Capital Cost Estimator

Linde, a global industrial gases producer with a large engineering organization, was struggling with high estimating variances, cost overruns and a dispersed estimating team using inconsistent tools and processes. To standardize estimating and improve accuracy, Linde adopted Aspen Technology’s aspenONE Engineering solution, specifically the Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE).

Aspen Technology, working with partner SES for deployment and training, configured ACCE to Linde’s historical data and modeled five recently built plants; the models closely reproduced actual installed capital costs with only small overall variability. After running ACCE in parallel with legacy systems and moving to full implementation, Linde achieved reduced estimating variance, fewer capital cost overruns, lower man-hours per estimate, and greater consistency and efficiency.
