PETROLTERV Ltd, a Szeged‑based engineering and consulting firm founded in 1967, was tasked with revamping the gas treatment technology at Hungary’s largest underground gas storage to meet new European (EN) standards that imposed stricter hydrocarbon and water dew point requirements. To address this challenge, PETROLTERV Ltd deployed Aspen Technology’s aspenONE Engineering suite—notably Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Exchanger Design & Rating (EDR)—to provide an integrated simulation and design platform across dehydration, refrigeration and heat‑exchanger systems.

Using Aspen HYSYS integrated with EDR, PETROLTERV Ltd rigorously modeled the propane refrigeration system and brazed aluminum heat exchangers and evaluated design alternatives (increase refrigeration capacity, change refrigerant, upgrade BAHX and add filter separators). The Aspen Technology solution enabled greater design accuracy, delivering the revamp on time and on budget, cutting outsourced engineering, and saving up to $400,000 USD on CAPEX while reducing overall project costs.
