CEPSA, the Spanish integrated energy company, needed to replace siloed, home‑grown spreadsheet scheduling that prevented coordinated decision‑making and left a large disconnect between planning and operations. To address this, CEPSA engaged Aspen Technology and its refinery solutions—Aspen PIMS, Aspen Petroleum Scheduler and Aspen Refinery Multi‑Blend Optimizer—to create an integrated scheduling and blending management model across its refineries.
Aspen Technology deployed a phased integration of Aspen PIMS with Aspen Petroleum Scheduler and Aspen Refinery Multi‑Blend Optimizer at La Rábida and Gibraltar‑San Roque, standardizing assays, models and KPIs and enabling multi‑user workflows. The solution delivered faster, more informed scheduling and measurable impacts: a 90% reduction in the planning‑to‑scheduling gap, a 70% cut in quality giveaway and a 20% reduction in demurrage, improving profitability and operational visibility.
