Essex County Fire and Rescue Service Procures Cloud Backup via G Cloud

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) is one of the UK’s largest county fire services, protecting a population of more than 1.74 million across 367,000 hectares and operating 50 stations. Facing time-consuming, hard-to-manage tape-based backups and the need to procure a replacement via the UK Government’s G Cloud for the first time, ECFRS sought a solution that could protect over 22 TB of data across 75+ servers, including Exchange, Oracle and virtual environments, without disrupting critical systems.

ECFRS selected Backup Technology’s Asigra-based cloud backup after trials against Symantec and Veeam; the fully managed service delivered policy-based, encrypted backups with local copies for fast LAN recovery and an off-site vault replicated across two data centres. BTL resolved Oracle version issues using DS-Clients, provided daily monitoring and a user portal, reduced backup timescales, improved staff efficiency, and gave ECFRS confidence in reliable high-performance recovery and ongoing protection of its operational and governance data.
