Ellwood National Crankshaft Building a Stronger Maintenance Department

Ellwood National Crankshaft (ENC) faced a fragmented maintenance operation when Joe Spess became Maintenance Manager in 2012: unclear reporting relationships, inconsistent processes across 16 maintenance staff, and an outdated Ashcom Technologies MaintiMizer™ CMMS (installed in 2005) that produced useless data and little real benefit. Joe considered replacing the system but, after attending MaintiMizer™ training and consulting with ENC’s purchasing manager, he engaged Ashcom Technologies to reassess both the software and overall maintenance practices.

Ashcom Technologies sent maintenance expert Craig Miller for on-site evaluation and worked with Joe to update MaintiMizer™ data standards and deploy MaintiMizer™ Web Edition, establish clear parts-ordering procedures and status codes, and train staff. The changes eliminated confusion, reduced duplicate part orders, and enabled meaningful reporting—allowing ENC to demonstrate money saved and drive proactive maintenance decisions—while improving team cohesion and creating a plan for ongoing Ashcom support.
