Wernsing Feinkost GmbH, a major foodstuffs producer, faced challenges ensuring the safety of its lone workers in -25°C refrigerated warehouses and needed to streamline the time-consuming truck loading process at its facility. They tasked the vendor, Ascom, with devising a comprehensive and integrated IP-based communications solution to address these operational and safety priorities.

The Ascom solution deployed rugged d62 and d81 handsets with personal safety alarm and 'man-down' functions to protect workers. A special 'Pager-Control' system using the d81 devices optimized truck traffic flow by directing drivers to loading ramps. The entire system was integrated by Ascom Unite Connectivity Manager software, leading to real improvements in both worker safety and operational efficiency while providing a scalable platform for the future.
