A Ascom Case Study
Chalon-sur-Saône Hospital faced the challenge of managing an overwhelming number of device alarms for COVID-19 patients, which caused significant alarm fatigue for medical staff. This constant disruption was a leading cause of medical error and risked exposing caregivers to the virus through frequent, unnecessary room entries. To address this, the hospital worked with Ascom to find a solution.
Ascom implemented a solution connecting ICU devices, such as monitors and ventilators, directly to the patient's electronic file and to caregivers' Ascom Myco smartphones. This ensured critical alerts were sent directly to the right nurse at the right time. The Ascom system reduced alarm triggers, saved caregivers significant time, and helped to optimally distribute the workload across units, thereby preventing ward saturation and improving both patient care and staff working conditions.
