Goulburn Valley Water - Customer Case Study

Goulburn Valley Water (GVW), a Victorian water utility serving about 129,000 people and employing roughly 180 staff, struggled with manual HR processes for performance appraisals, learning and policy compliance. These manual workflows created subjectivity in salary increments, made it difficult to align individual objectives to GVW’s three‑year Strategic Plan, and hindered reporting for managers, risk teams and auditors. GVW engaged Ascender and adopted the PeopleStreme performance management solution to tackle these challenges.

Ascender implemented the PeopleStreme/Ascender online performance management system and ran facilitated workshops to train managers on SMART objectives and change management. The solution automated L&D plan loading and performance rating calculations, improved visibility of objectives across the business, and made it easier to track training and policy compliance. As a result, GVW reported reduced subjectivity in ratings, more frequent manager–employee performance conversations, clearer alignment to strategy and better oversight of training and compliance under Ascender’s system.
