Glendale Water and Power reaches 100% clean energy by 2035 with Ascend Analytics

Glendale Water and Power (GWP), a municipal utility facing severe transmission constraints and reliability concerns, selected Ascend Analytics to develop an integrated resource plan targeting 100% clean energy. Their challenge was to decarbonize their energy supply portfolio while maintaining system reliability for their electrically isolated community, all amid tight resource constraints and limited land for local development.

Using its proprietary PowerSIMM software suite, Ascend Analytics modelled six detailed energy supply scenarios, incorporating extensive stakeholder feedback and reliability analyses. Ascend presented these unbiased comparisons to the city council, which then approved a plan to achieve 100% clean energy by 2035. The solution provided a road map to efficiently meet energy demand and realize decarbonization goals, creating alignment after an intensive seven-month process.
