Meliá Hotels International connects the world with Asana

Meliá Hotels International, a Mallorca-based chain with 374 hotels worldwide, relies on technology to deliver guest services and drive growth. Tomeu Fiol’s 10-person EMEA IT team supports technology at 85 hotels remotely and opens 5–7 new properties a year, facing coordination challenges across time zones, complex multi-supplier rollouts, and extreme logistics (for example, delivering satellite internet and solar-powered systems to the remote Serengeti Lodge).

To solve this, the team moved from Excel and MS Project to Asana, creating templated workflows for new openings (design, installation, post‑opening) and a “Demands” queue for staff requests with custom fields and tags. The real-time, mobile, collaborative system improved clarity and accountability, enabled six new hotel openings in 2017 and widescale rollouts across 85 hotels, and helped Meliá boost revenue and loyalty program growth while keeping guests connected—even in the Serengeti.
