Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Takes Aim at Inefficiency and Targets Manual Data Entry

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), a national nonprofit that trains and educates U.S. citizens in firearms safety and marksmanship, faced slow, error-prone manual tallying and website posting of hand-written competition scorecards across more than 850 competitors and 17 events. To meet the need for timely, 100% accurate results, CMP partnered with Artsyl and deployed its docAlpha intelligent capture solution to automate data extraction from handwritten scorecards.

Artsyl’s docAlpha platform uses handwritten character recognition, scoring algorithms and rule-based validation to extract, total and double-check scores, then automatically update CMP’s online competition tracker. As a result, Artsyl reduced posting time from hours to just 30 minutes and enabled accurate automatic posting for over 800 scores, preserving the paper scorecards CMP wanted to keep while dramatically cutting errors and processing time.
