Students Get Better Grades With Articulate-Powered Blended Learning

Articulate partnered with University of Houston professor Dr. Brian McFarlin to pilot a blended-learning version of Kinesiology 3306. The challenge was to improve student outcomes and flexibility while integrating e-learning with the campus LMS (WebCT) and making course authoring manageable for instructors without extensive technical skills.

Using Articulate, Dr. McFarlin replaced one weekly lecture with slide-by-slide narrated, SCORM-compliant online modules that included embedded self-tests and downloadable storyboards, making content easy to update and track. The hybrid class students averaged a full letter grade higher than those in the traditional format, reported strong satisfaction with the format, and the approach has begun to be adopted by other faculty.
