Catholic Relief Services Builds Humanitarian E-Learning To Expedite Disaster Relief

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) developed "Seed Systems in Natural Disaster Risk Management" to address a common humanitarian gap: disasters often destroy seed supplies and relief teams frequently lack agricultural expertise, causing misdiagnoses and delayed recovery for farming communities. Working with the World Bank and CRS technical teams, Leslie Blanton used Articulate Studio ’09 to rapidly create a five-module course that teaches staff how to strengthen seed supply chains and support timely, appropriate agricultural recovery.

Using Articulate Engage and Quizmaker, Blanton prototyped and authored the course in PowerPoint and completed all modules in about three months. The course—distributed by the World Bank on flash drives, hosted on CRS’s LMS, and shared through the LINGOs network—now reaches field staff and partner NGOs, integrates with the GoCourse field system, and helps humanitarian teams plan faster, more strategic seed responses that improve recovery outcomes.
